SCWA Mission: "To promote the conservation of the natural resources of the Swatara Creek Watershed by conducting scientific investigations and research, disseminating information, conducting educational programs, sponsoring conservation projects and all activities incidental thereto." The Swatara Creek Watershed Association, Inc. was founded in 1970 in response to encouragement from the Chamber of Commerce and State and federal agencies to promote conservation of the Swatara Creek Watershed. The corporation was active in the 70's then became dormant. Approximately 1986 a group of citizens became concerned about landfills being projected close to the Swatara Creek in Schuylkill County, PA. As a result, they formed an association known as Citizens Coordinating for Clean Water (CCCW). This group ultimately became active with regard to broader aspects concerning the Swatara Creek Watershed. The increased size of the organization to over 100, expanded activities, and availability of government and private grants to support some of its educational activities caused CCCW to consider incorporating. Several of the directors of the Swatara Creek Watershed Association were involved in the affairs of CCCW and it was suggested as a matter of economy to reactivate Swatara Creek Watershed Association, Inc. whose original purpose matched those of CCCW. The last directors of the corporation met and agreed to become active again and to assimilate the activities of CCCW.

SCWA works to preserve our natural resource, the Swatara Watershed. If you would like to enroll as a subscriber with full benefits, SCWA will use your dues to help preserve our water. Or, maybe you would like to give the gift of water to a special friend. If so, $20 per year or $200 lifetime provides a quarterly subscription to "Swatara News." This will also keep you on the canoe trip mailing list. Please mail your name, address, phone number, and email address along with your check to 2501 Cumberland St., Suite 4, Lebanon PA 17042. Adding $3 shipping and handling to either membership will also get you a free Swatara Watershed Mills and Bank Barns book or EELS-Envisioning an Environmental Legacy for the Swatara book. The lifetime membership includes an autographed EELS book, the book on CD in a pdf file and an audio book narrated by Gordon Weise. Finally, “EELS: In Their Own Words”, is a set of seven DVDs. You may have read the EELS book or listened to the eloquent narration of the book by Gordon Weise, but $500 Gold Sponsors of the Swatara Creek Watershed Association will receive all of the above plus a special incentive--"EELS, In Their Own Words"--a DVD collection of over 40 hours of living history (interviews conducted to create the EELS book) on the Swatara Watershed. It may be a cherished and valuable asset to your library or a way to teach your children about their heritage.
