Tips

These maps use all of the features of web pages, plus some tricks. You will know if you are on a map page if the background of the page is black.

Whenever you are in a map view, new options are available to you. If you are viewing a map, you can click the right mouse button to bring up a list of viewing options. The most useful options are:

Pan (Arrow Keys) : This feature allows you to move around within the map. You can use the arrow keys on your keyboard at any time or you can select Pan from the menu. You will then be able to move around in the map by clicking and dragging with the mouse.
Zoom (Page Up/Down) : This feature allows you to zoom in and out of the map. You can use the Page Up (closer) and Page Down (further) keys on your keyboard at any time or you can select Zoom from the menu and zoom by clicking and dragging with the mouse.
Zoom Rectangle : This feature allows you to zoom in on an area of the map that you select. After you select this feature, use the left button of the mouse to select the upper left corner of the area you would like to see. Drag the mouse to the lower right corner and release. The display will zoom to the area you want to see.
Fit to Window : This feature allows you to go back to "square one" after all the panning and zooming above. Selecting this feature will restore the map to its original condition.
Layers : This feature allows you to turn certain parts of the drawing off (show the layers or not show the layers). Selecting this feature brings up a list of available layers. Click on the picture of the light bulb to turn the layers on and off. Don't worry, the information is not gone, it just isn't showing up. (To turn off the topographic map, select Layer 0.) Click on the X in the Layers window to close it.
Location : This feature allows you to track your position at all times. Selecting this feature brings up a box which shows your X (Easting) and Y (Northing) coordinates within the watershed. The numbers change to reflect your position as you move around. Click on the X in the Location window to close it.

You can also print the map using the "Print" option from the "File" menu in your web browser. Your printer will print out whatever magnification level and layers are showing on the screen, but the background will be white on the print-out.
