10 Annual Canoe the Swattie -Scotto's Italian Restaurant, Jonestown, Lebanon County to Union Canal Canoe Rentals, East Hanover Township, Lebanon County--1998. SPONSORS:
The clean-up began with the launch site at the Lebanon Water Authority in Jonestown, then stoped for lunch at the Water Works canoe launch--Fish Commission property, and ended at Union Canal Canoe Rentals in East Hanover Township, Lebanon County. Canoe departure time started at 9 a.m. with a maximum of 25 canoes released every half hour. This event is organized in an effort to remove litter from the Swatara Creek, which is a primary source of potable water for the Lebanon Water Authority, the PA American Water Company, and the Middletown Water Company. The clean-up effort typically yields approximately 100 people. This excursion is part of a program known as Outreach, which seeks to educate the community about its natural resources. The SCWA has put this program together on behalf of children and adults alike. It's a great opportunity for the entire family to learn more about protecting their surroundings.
