Quittie Creek Nature Park
Mission: To continue to cooperatively maintain the Park, to improve and beautify the Park, and to protect and preserve the Park and educate the community as to the value of such a natural resource existing in the community.
Ann Lasky has been co-chair of the Quittie Creek Park Committee in Annville PA since its inception in 1989. She's helped to organize: cleanups in the park; tree plantings; earth day walks; mulching of trails; trail maintenance; an educational program with the Lebanon Middle School students; and a partnership with the PA Fish & Boat Commission to stabilize 900' of stream bank along the banks in Quittie Creek Nature Park.
Conservation District Director Betty Conner presents a 1998 award to Ann and David Lasky.
The Park took a first prize in "Take Pride in Pennsylvania" in 1992 for the conservation of 24 acres of woods, wetlands and limestone bluffs along the Quittie as a public park. The National Awards Council for Environmental Projects gave a 1995 Environmental Achievement award for success in protecting the environment while serving as a model for other parks around the country. And Renew America's National Environmental Award Council included the Quittie Creek park in their guide to successful environmental programs for conserving and maintaining a nature park and gave the Quittie Park the 1996 Award for Environmental Sustainability.
A 50 step stairway completed the trail; railroad ties were placed in the hillside to keep mud from sliding; and a handicap-accessible overlook was placed at the creek. Through the assistance of the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs, the Quittie Creek Park received a weather proof bulletin board as an entrance sign and to post activities.
Ann has worked to coordinate volunteer groups and agencies in making a viable Park maintenance program. Local tree-trimmers bring their clippings to spread on the trails. Carmeuse donated crushed stones for a parking lot. Boger donated trucks to transport and spread stones.
